Gracias Gustavo — YOLA Collaboration
On October 11, 2025, Kim Eung Hwa & Korean Dance Academy joined musicians from YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles) for an intercultural performance at the Gracias Gustavo Community Block Party in Inglewood.
Presented at the Judith and Thomas L. Beckmen YOLA Center as part of the LA Phil’s 2025/26 Gracias Gustavo season, the celebration honored Gustavo Dudamel’s legacy as LA Phil Music & Artistic Director, the impact of YOLA, and the creative energy of Inglewood and its surrounding communities.
The collaboration brought Korean traditional percussion and movement into dialogue with a full youth orchestra. The resonant sound and choreography of the large drum and janggu performers shared the stage with YOLA’s strings, winds, brass, and percussion, creating a vivid meeting of musical traditions and generations.
Across the day, YOLA musicians and alumni, local artists, community partners, vendors, and families gathered for live performances, interactive art activities, and a community celebration centered on music, youth, and cultural exchange.
